Training Classes

Anyone interested in earning an entry level Technician class (Level 1), or a General class (Level 2) Amateur Radio license is invited to attend three training classes on successive Saturdays. On the 3rd Saturday there will be a short class and review in the morning, followed by the Amateur Radio Exam Session session at 1 PM. Classes start at 9 AM in the training room at the Port Angeles Fire Department, at 5th and Laurel in Port Angeles. The classes run until 5 PM with an hour off for lunch. There is no cost for the classes, which are presented by volunteers from Clallam County Amateur Radio Club.

Students will learn Rules and Regulations, Basic Electronics, Operating Amateur Radios, and Radio Frequency Safety. Those earning an entry level license will be able to communicate with other hams world wide, and to participate in the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, an important part of Homeland Security.

The students must purchase an American Radio Relay League “Ham Radio License Manual Level I or The ARRL General Class License Manual at a cost of $32.95. These books are available from the ARRL.

Members of Search and Rescue, The Washington Pilots Association, Neighborhood Watch Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and other emergency groups are especially invited to attend these classes and earn their ham radio licenses.

Testing Session

All classes of Amateur Radio licenses tests will be administered (Technician, General, and Extra.) The test session costs $15.00 for FCC Processing. The test questions are based on the ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League) study guides which contain absolutely everything you need to know to take the FCC license exams. The manuals contain all of the actual questions that will appear on the tests.

All persons testing must satisfy these requirements per the FCC:

You must supply the examiners with either a Social Security Number (SSN) or an FCC issued Federal Registration Number (FRN). You are encouraged to apply for an FRN prior to the test session if you do not have one. NOTE that you do not need an amateur license to apply.
You must bring a legal photo ID.
If you are upgrading a current license, you must bring a photocopy of your current license that you can leave with the examiners.
